Why “Eat Less, Move More” Fails
If you’re over 40, you’ve probably heard the old “just eat less and move more” advice. The problem? It doesn’t account for slower metabolism, lower hormone levels, and recovery needs that change with age. The good news: with the right plan, you can still get lean, strong, and stage-ready without wrecking your energy or muscle.
Set Protein & Calories Right
Protein: Aim for 2.0–2.5g per kg of bodyweight daily. Protein preserves muscle while dieting and keeps hunger down.
Calories: Start with 10–12 calories per lb of bodyweight if fat loss is the main goal. Adjust every 1–2 weeks based on scale and mirror.
Cardio That Preserves Muscle
Stick with low-to-moderate intensity cardio (incline treadmill walk, bike, stepper) for 30–40 minutes daily.
Avoid endless high-intensity intervals — they spike cortisol and drain recovery.
Use cardio as a tool, not a punishment.
Strength Split for Busy Weeks
Even with work, family, and stress, a 4–5 day strength split works best:

Alcohol: if you drink, cap it at 2–3 drinks and balance with water.

Breakfast: 4 eggs + 50g oats + berries
Snack: 200g high-protein Greek yogurt + 1 tbsp almond butter
Lunch: 150g chicken breast + 150g jasmine rice + veggies
